Michelle Mendez-Yela

11th Grade Student Success Advocate and Step-Up Director

Student Expectations

As your SSA, I am more than happy to assist you in any way I can to help you succeed in our online program. So there are a few things I ask of all my students and parents.

  1. Please contact me for any questions or concerns you have. I unfortunately was not gifted with telepathy, so if you don't reach out, I don't know if you need help or how I can help you. Communication is KEY!

  2. Please complete your attendance requirements by Wednesday. You should be working in all classes every day anyway, so this is completely doable.

  3. DO NOT wait to take locked exams, take them ASAP, and make sure you are in your Delta uniform shirt, your screen name is set up in the following format: "First, Last name, Grade". Have your camera on. If you do not have this ready to go, you will not be let into the Zoom.

  4. Stay on track or get ahead. THERE ARE NO EXCUSES :) Edgenuity is available 24/7, 7 days a week. If you know you have a doctor's appointment or have scheduled a vacation, you need to work ahead. Fun fact, there IS wifi in the middle of the ocean, my director grades and emails us while on cruise ships :)

  5. You are an 11th grader, which means you are a young adult, which means hand-holding will not happen :) its ok to ask for help always, but neither I nor your parents will do the work for you. Be accountable for yourself. You are one year closer to graduation, which means you will be out in the world soon!

About Me

Originally from Oregon, I moved to Las Vegas when I was 4 years old. I have lived in Vegas since and graduated from Del Sol. I am both a College of Southern Nevada and Nevada State University alumnus. I speak both English and Spanish fluently and enjoy traveling whenever possible.

My Journey with Delta Academy started in August of 2016. I was hired to serve as the front desk receptionist and the following year became the Computer Lab Facilitator. I enjoyed my position as the Computer Lab facilitator and did that for 7 years. I have also been the Step-Up director for 7 years, and it is the most rewarding position ever!

The past 2 years, I have served on Delta's SSA team, which serves to help online students be successful while attending online classes with us. Nothing is more important to me than serving our Delta students and their parents.

I am also a senior Events coordinator, organizing college field trips, volunteering with various organizations outside Delta, such as the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth, and Project 150.

All in all, helping others is my purpose, and I wish to do nothing but help my students and their parents navigate the school system and one day make something of themselves. I may be a stepping stone in your student's life, but I aim to teach them values they can recall for a lifetime.

"Always believe in yourself. Do this and no matter where you are, you will have nothing to fear." ~Hayao Miyazaki
